Quarks come in six flavors: up, down, charm, strange, top, and bottom.
When two up quarks and one down quark are bound together by the strong nuclear force, they form a proton! Two down quarks and one up quark bond into a neutron!
Only up and down quarks combine to form stable matter in our universe, but there are others...

“The harder you try to pull quarks apart, the more tightly the strong force resists...if there’s enough energy to pull quarks apart, new ones would just be created from the vacuum...That’s mass-energy equivalence....Trapped energy. They can’t be alone.”
